Our public schools are a cornerstone of SOMA. We're fortunate to be part of a school district that strives to include every student and voice. We're proud of what students achieve here, academically, creatively, and athletically. We are inspired by our engaged student body and community; energetic parent volunteers; dynamic teachers; and new, thoughtful leadership.

We are so grateful to the SOMA community for believing in the Brown, Bennett, Kapadia slate to serve on the BOE. THANK YOU. We are inspired by the family, friends, neighbors, and strangers (who are now friends) that stepped up to support us along this journey.

We look forward to collaborating with our fellow BOE members and leaders of our amazing school district, especially with our new Superintendent who has already established a new vision and direction for our schools. We want to recognize the efforts of our fellow candidates Bethany Joseph, Paul Stephan, Qawi Telesford, and Arun Vadlamani. In addition, thank you to Board members Qawi Telesford and Arun Vadlamani for their service over the past three years.

As we said at the start, it takes a village—and wow, did you create that village for us. THANK YOU. We pledge to create a SOMSD that lives up to and serves our amazing community.

More to come, but for the next few days we’re going to rest and reflect and spend some much-needed time with our families. We hope you will do the same. Soon, the work begins.

Cheers,

Deirdre, Jeff, and Bimal

We are so grateful to our neighbors who wrote endorsements showing their support for the Brown Bennett Kapadia for BOE slate. They say it takes a village and it sure does! All Village Green endorsement links can be found here.

We are parents with kids in the District that span pre-K to 12th grade who are ready to lead our District forward.

We envision a Board that:

  • Supports students’ diverse needs, including a well run special education department, a gifted and talented program, and expansion of Career and Technical Education at CHS.

  • Develops common-sense, collaborative policies around school placement decisions, recognizing families have different needs and preferences.

  • Collects and regularly utilizes data to inform and monitor policy decisions.

  • Ensures that all student athletes have equitable access to turf fields that are well-maintained and safe.

  • Promotes a robust arts education program, the pride and joy of our community.

  • Strategically analyzes and oversees the budget and process, ensuring we plan for current and future years.

  • Embraces the skills, talents, and experiences of our vibrant community–especially teachers and parents.
